Do You Feel Weird Having More Than Enough?

money blocks

Having more than you need sounds like a lovely problem.

Until it happens, and suddenly you feel weird.

A launch goes well and instead of feeling settled, you immediately think about what to spend it on. A good month happens and you feel vaguely uncomfortable. You keep your savings at zero because you tell yourself you are investing in the business, but really there is something about money just sitting there that makes you twitchy.

Or maybe you are working on an old laptop that crashes twice a week, and even though you could afford to replace it, you keep saying not yet. Making do, even when you do not have to, is its own kind of money block.

Where this comes from

A lot of us were taught, explicitly or just by watching the adults around us, that having more than you need is somehow wrong, wasteful, selfish, or dangerous. You might have absorbed that surplus means someone else is going without, that practicality means never upgrading, or that wanting more means you are ungrateful.

So when money arrives, you get it out of your account as quickly as possible. You spend it, give it away, over-deliver, or create another situation that brings you back to the familiar level.

For those who like to save and plan ahead, this block can be complicated: you might love the idea of savings but still feel anxious about money that is not actively doing something. For over-givers, surplus can bring up guilt: who am I to have more when other people are struggling?

But having more than enough does not make you greedy. It gives you choices, breathing room, and the ability to be generous from overflow instead of depletion.

What to try this week

Open a savings account and put $5 in it. Not to build wealth right now, just to practice the feeling of money that does not get immediately spent or assigned. Once $5 feels fine, go to $7. Then $13. Then $25. The amount is not the point. Getting comfortable with having more than you need is.

Affirmation: It is safe for me to have more than I need.

This is block six in the series, and it is one of the most surprising ones for people to recognise in themselves. The free training covers all seven, including what to do once you have spotted yours.
